PVC Insulated Single-core |

For normal domestic wiring it is usually only used for
certain situations. In those the cable would consist of
stranded conductors twisted together and housed in a PVC
covering. 10 mm sq. single core,sheathed This is colour
coded green and yellow, is used for supplementary equipotential
(earth) bonding. 16 mm sq. single core colour coded green
and yellow is used for connecting the earth terminal on
the consumer unit to the Supply Company’s earth connection.
The sizes of these cables may vary according to your supply
and earthing system you should always contact a qualified
professional or your electricity supplier for there recommended
sizes

PVC Insulated PVC Sheathed Twin-core

This is often referred to as ‘twin
and earth’ and maybe made up of solid conductors
or separate strands twisted together .The twisted strand
cable is more flexibility and makes it easier to move bend
on walls etc. . The phase (live) and neutral are colour
coded and PVC insulated. The CPC/earth is not insulated.
All three are then sheathed in a protective PVC sheath.
Note that insulation must always be provided for the earth
conductor when it is exposed to make connections. (This
is done using green and yellow sleeving available from
most Diy stores) Commonly used for ring main and radial
circuits

Three Core and Earth |

Three core and earth this is similar to the above two
core and earth , but has three conductor, that are normally
colour coded red, blue and yellow as well as an CPC/earth.
It is mainly used in two way lighting circuits . It provides
the necessary additional conductor between the two switches
operating the same light fitting
